Febrile seizures, triggered by high fever in children, are typically harmless and do not cause long-term neurological damage. Different subtypes of seizures exist within fever-associated seizures or epilepsy (FASE). Heat can also trigger seizures in children and individuals with epilepsy. Prolonged febrile seizures may increase the risk of future seizures and cause transient neuronal injury.
