Environmental factors and lung cancer risk
GeneralLung cancer is a major global health problem, affecting both smokers and non-smokers. Smoking is the biggest risk factor, but environmental variables also play a significant role. In India, lung cancer is increasing, and besides smoking, heavy metals and air pollution are important factors. Radiation, heavy metal exposure, air pollution, and free radicals contribute to the development of lung cancer. Particulate matter from air pollution, especially in metropolitan areas, increases the risk.
