IIT Professor suffers cardiac arrest, dies on stage

IIT Kanpur Professor Sameer Khandekar collapsed on stage due to cardiac arrest while addressing his students and died. He was 55 years old. He was delivering a lecture during an alumni meeting. Sameer Khandekar was the dean of student affairs and the head of the mechanical engineering department. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. Khandekar was diagnosed with high cholesterol levels about five years ago. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is often caused by an electrical malfunction in the heart.
